El Río Open Water Swim
An inter-island open-water swim between Lanzarote and La Graciosa, with a 2.6 km crossing and entries expected to open in June.
Event information
About the event
El Río Open Water Swim is one of the Canary Islands’ most emblematic open-water races. The 2026 edition is announced for 19 September and crosses the channel between Lanzarote and La Graciosa.
Route and distances
The reference distance is about 1,800 m between Bajo el Risco and Caleta de Sebo, inside a protected marine setting strongly affected by currents, wind and safety operations.
Registration and status
Cabildo de Lanzarote publishes the rules, places and entry process. Being able to swim the distance is not enough: check requirements, boat logistics, transport, timetable and withdrawal protocol.
Planning notes
Train open-water sighting and keep a safety margin. Inter-island logistics are part of the race, so confirm ferry, accreditation and meeting points before travelling.
