About the race

The Cronoescalada Valle del Malpaso is an individual uphill time trial in the municipality of Haría, with riders set off one at a time at short intervals. It is organised by Haría town council together with Summits Sports Events, timed by Cronoline Servicios Deportivos, and two editions have been held, both in December: the 1st on 14 December 2024 and the 2nd on 20 December 2025.

It is a race against the clock and the gradient. The 2025 edition climbed to Peñas del Chache, the highest point in Lanzarote, and 46 riders were classified. The winner averaged 22.37 km/h, a figure that says more about a sustained climb than any adjective.

The 2026 edition has not been announced

As of 20 August 2026 there is no date. The race does not appear in the 2026 official calendar of the Canary Islands Cycling Federation, and the upcoming events section on the Summits Sports Events site is empty. The two previous editions were held in December, but that is not a date, and none is published here until the council or the organising company announces one.

A warning from last time: the 2nd edition was called for Saturday 13 December 2025 and was pushed back a week by hurricane-force winds. If a 3rd edition is called, confirm the day before you travel.

The course changed between editions

There is no fixed route, so no single distance can be given for the race:

• 1st edition, 2024: start on the plaza in Haría, finish at the Mirador de Los Helechos, climbing the LZ-10. The published figures were 4.9 km with around 350 metres of climbing and a 6.6% average gradient.
• 2nd edition, 2025: start at the Centro Sociocultural in Tabayesco, finish at the Peñas del Chache military base. Official timing classified the race as 10,000 metres.

Several listing sites still attribute the 2024 figure of 4.97 km to the race, which belongs to a different course. The exact profile of the Tabayesco to Peñas del Chache climb has not been published by the organiser.

Podiums from 20 December 2025, out of 46 classified riders:

The 2025 categories were cadete, under 23, elite and master 30, 40, 50 and 60, with master 30 and 40 for women, plus a children’s hill climb.

Planning your race

The 2025 start times ran between 16:07 and 16:46, which puts the race in the late afternoon of a December day, when it is markedly cooler at the top than on the coast. The Peñas del Chache finish is military ground and the road up there is not freely open, so spectators are better off standing on the climb itself.
