Club La Santa Volcano Triathlon Half

Entries for the Volcano Half 2027 opened on 15 October 2026: 180 EUR until 21 October, 200 from the 22nd. Club La Santa now confirms 26 June 2027 on its own site. Middle distance in Tinajo, over a 1.9 km swim, 90 km on the bike and 21.1 km on foot.

Event information

Entries for the Volcano Half 2027 are open: 180 euros until 21 October

It is what you ask us most about this race, so it goes first. Entries opened on 15 October 2026, and the fee table is published both on Club La Santa’s entry page and at its official timekeeper, both read that same day.

The first band is the cheapest, and it lasts less than a week:

BandIndividualRelay
15 – 21 October 2026180 €234 €
22 October 2026 – 21 April 2027200 €260 €
22 April – 21 May 2027208 €270.40 €
22 May – 20 June 2027222 €287.20 €

So there are 20 euros between entering by 21 October 2026, that day included, and entering from the 22nd, and 42 euros between the first band and the last. Entries close on 20 June 2027, six days before the race, and the form accepts athletes born in 2009 or earlier.

The relay runs in parallel on an almost exact rule: 234, 260 and 270.40 euros are exactly 30% more than 180, 200 and 208. In the last band the rule breaks: 222 times 1.3 would be 288.60 and the table says 287.20, which is 29.4%. And Club La Santa does not say whether that relay amount is per team or per athlete, checked on 15 October 2026.

One more thing, because it matters if you are coming for both races: the opening the timekeeper had loaded was for 14:00 that day, Canary Islands time, and at 18:20 the entry form for the other race, the Volcano Triathlon over the olympic and sprint distances, still read «Registration openning soon», the double n being the organiser’s own typo. The two did not open together. What there is on the olympic and the sprint is on its own page.

If you want the detail of how this was known before the organiser announced it, here it is: the public event page at the official timekeeper, Race Result, had the opening loaded. The data on that page read «validFrom: 2026-10-15T14:00:00+01:00», pointing at its entry form, read on 14 October 2026, twenty-four hours before it opened. The very same time appeared on the Volcano Triathlon event for the olympic and sprint distances, and it fitted what the organiser announced in July 2026: all three distances would open at once. The middle distance opened; the other two, that day, did not.

What to check for yourself, so you do not depend on anyone:

This is the first edition, so there is no when did it open last year for this race. The reference that does exist belongs to its older sibling, the Volcano Triathlon: its 2026 entries were already open on 13 May 2025, two and a half weeks after the previous edition was raced, according to the capture of the official site from that day on the Internet Archive. The 2027 cycle went another way: in July 2026 the organiser announced all three distances would open on 20 August, and the middle distance ended up opening on 15 October, almost two months later.

The rest is settled:

  • When and where: at Club La Santa, Tinajo, on 26 June 2027, starting at 07:40. The date is now published by the organiser itself on its website, and how it was arrived at is explained further down.
  • What is raced: a 1.9 km swim in the lagoon, 90 km on the bike in a single loop and 21.1 km on foot over three laps.
  • Who can enter: age groups from 18-24 to 75-79, a minimum age of 18 as at 31 December 2027, a PRO category with qualifying times and relays for men, women and mixed teams.
  • What entry covers: aid stations, a shirt and a bag, a finisher medal and patch, timing, first aid, massage at the finish and accident insurance.
  • What is still missing: the field limit, which is not published, and the athlete guide, which the website still promises «lo antes posible», as soon as possible. Both checked on 15 October 2026.

Is the race definitely on? Is it a 70.3? Does it qualify for the World Championship?

Three questions that reach us together, and all three have an answer.

The race is on, and since 15 October 2026 its website gives the day and has entries open. The accident insurance document linked from that same page expressly covers the «Club La Santa Volcano Triathlon Half 2027», read on 15 October 2026.

On the name: this is middle distance, what many people call 70.3, but it is not an IRONMAN 70.3. The Volcano Triathlon Half is Club La Santa’s own race, and its official page makes no mention of the 70.3 or of IRONMAN as organiser, checked on 15 October 2026. The name shows up once, on the English version and inside the cycling tips: «One of the most popular routes is the IRONMAN LANZAROTE route, covering 180 kilometres». It is a training route, not this race. The organiser’s July 2026 press release, carried by Europa Press, puts it like this: «Club La Santa recupera en la isla de Lanzarote una distancia que había desaparecido en 2023», Club La Santa brings back to Lanzarote a distance that had disappeared in 2023. So if you arrived looking for the Lanzarote 70.3, this is the middle distance the island has today, with a different organiser and a different name.

And on the World Championship: Club La Santa publishes no slot and no qualification for any world championship, checked on 15 October 2026 on its Volcano Triathlon Half page in Spanish and in English. What it does publish is prize money in the PRO category, detailed further down. If the slots part changes, it will be said here.

About the event

The Club La Santa Volcano Triathlon Half is a new event and marks the return of middle distance triathlon to Lanzarote. The organisers present it as another chapter in the history of the Volcano Triathlon, which in 2027 comes to have two dates: the olympic and sprint races first, and this middle distance afterwards.

It is raced over 1.9 km of swimming, 90 km of cycling and 21.1 km of running.

Where the 26 June date comes from

Two dates were published for this first edition and they did not agree, so it is worth saying which one governs:

  • Club La Santa’s July 2026 press release, carried by Europa Press, launched the race on 24 April 2027.
  • The official timekeeper, Race Result, titles its event number 409582 «Club La Santa Volcano Triathlon Half 2027, 26/06/2027» and places it in Tinajo, read on 15 October 2026. On the 2 October 2026 reading, that same event said «24/04/2027».

26 June governs, and the organiser now says so on its own website: its Volcano Triathlon Half page carries the heading «FECHA: 26 DE JUNIO 2027», date 26 June 2027, read on 15 October 2026. Until the day before, that page gave no date and we published the timekeeper’s, flagged as provisional. It is not provisional any more: both of the organiser’s own sources say the same thing, and with entries open you can book a flight.

The timekeeper also loads the start time: 07:40.

The three legs

  • Swim, 1.9 km. In the salt water lagoon beside Club La Santa, on a marked course. The organisers give a water temperature of around 19.5 ºC, and wetsuit use is confirmed on race day according to the official measured temperature and the applicable rules. Cut-off at 1 h 10 min from each athlete’s individual start.
  • Bike, 90 km. A single lap. Fixed intermediate cut-off at 12:22 at kilometre 62.5, in Los Valles, and a final cut-off at 6 h from the individual start.
  • Run, 21.1 km. Three laps from Club La Santa along the La Santa coast to Las Betancoras. Fixed intermediate cut-off at 15:25 after 10.5 km, and a finish cut-off at 8 h 30 min from the individual start.

The cut-offs refer to each athlete’s individual start, not to a mass start: the swim goes off one at a time.

Categories and minimum age

There is a PRO category with qualifying standards, and they are demanding: to be eligible for the men’s PRO you have to be capable of finishing in «menos de 4 horas 40 minutos», under 4 hours 40 minutes, and in the women’s, in «5 horas 15 minutos», 5 hours 15.

The age groups run from 18-24 to 75-79, in five-year bands, and there are team relays for men, women and mixed. The minimum age is 18 as at 31 December 2027, which is the date used to work out the group, not the day of the race.

Entry

Entries have been open since 15 October 2026 and close on 20 June 2027. You go in through Club La Santa’s entry page, which is the one that leads to the timekeeper’s form and the one that publishes the fee table. The four bands, with their individual and relay amounts, are at the top of this page.

Two things the organiser does not publish, checked on 15 October 2026: the field limit, and whether the relay amount is per team or per athlete. What the form does carry is its age limit: it accepts athletes born in 2009 or earlier.

Entry covers race organisation, traffic control and marshals, aid stations on course, a participant shirt and bag, a finisher medal and patch, timing with results, first aid cover, a relaxing massage in the finish area in order of arrival, given by students from a massage therapy school, and accident insurance included in the entry, through Mutuacat. For therapeutic massage, the organisers point you to a qualified physiotherapist.

The race number is collected in person, with photo ID or passport, and the race is run under the ITU competition rules.

What the winners take home

There is prize money, and only in the PRO category. The website publishes a single list for men and women, with the same figures for both: 5,000 euros for the winner, then 2,750, 1,750, 1,250, 1,000 and 750 down to sixth. Local taxes and bank fees are deducted from the amount.

And one condition worth reading before you book the flight home: «la asistencia a la ceremonia de premios es obligatoria para poder optar al premio en metálico», attendance at the prize ceremony is compulsory to claim the money, and the ceremony runs from 17:30 to 18:30.

The trophies do not all go to whoever is fastest overall. There is one for the first conejero or conejera, born on Lanzarote, and another for the first Canary Islands resident, who also gets 50% off next year’s entry. The top 3 in each age group and the top 6 in the PRO category complete the list.

In the relay every member of a finishing team gets a medal and a finisher patch, and there are trophies for the winning men’s, women’s and mixed teams.

Planning your race

It is the same base as the Volcano Triathlon over the olympic and sprint distances, so what you already know about La Santa applies: wind all but guaranteed on the bike, and a sheltered lagoon for the swim. If you are coming for both, the two dates the organiser now publishes leave exactly nine weeks between them: 24 April and 26 June 2027.

The athlete guide is not published yet: the website says it will be out «lo antes posible», as soon as possible, checked on 15 October 2026. The environmental guide is available, although the website presents it as the 2027 one and the file it links is the 2026 English template, on the Spanish page too, checked on 15 October 2026.

Price

180 - 222 EUR

Individual entry 180 EUR from 15 to 21 October 2026; 200 EUR from 22 October to 21 April 2027; 208 EUR until 21 May and 222 EUR until 20 June 2027. The relay costs 234, 260, 270.40 and 287.20 EUR in the same bands: the first three are exactly 30% more than the individual entry, and the last one stops at 29.4%, because 222 EUR times 1.3 would be 288.60 and the table says 287.20. These are the figures on Club La Santa's entry table and the same ones its official timekeeper loads, both read on 15 October 2026, the day entries opened. The organiser does not say whether the relay amount is per team or per athlete. Nor does it publish a field limit, checked on 15 October 2026. The form accepts athletes born in 2009 or earlier, and entries close on 20 June 2027.
