Lanzarote races with a 2027 date: the five you can already plan around

Five races on the island already have a 2027 date: four published by their organiser and one still in draft, the Costa Teguise race, which also appears in the World Triathlon calendar under a new name. What you can book today and what is still to come.

If you are building a 2027 season on Lanzarote, five races have a date on the table and 47 do not. That is enough to start looking at flights, because the five with dates are the ones that need the most notice, and between them they cover March, April, May and October.

Four of those dates come from the organiser itself and can be taken as good. The fifth comes from a draft and arrives under a different name: in World Triathlon’s 2027 calendar, consulted on 12 October 2026, the Costa Teguise race no longer sits under the World Cup heading but under T50 Cup.

Here is what you can book today, what is worth waiting for, and where each figure comes from.

6 and 7 March: the Costa Teguise World Cup appears as T50 Cup Lanzarote

On 25 September 2026, at its 39th Congress held in Sanxenxo (Pontevedra), World Triathlon presented a document titled, in its own words, “First draft of the 2027 racing calendar”. Inside it, the T50 Cup section opens with a single line for the island:

“March 6-7 - Lanzarote (ESP)”

Before the name, two things about that line matter to anyone about to buy a flight.

It is a weekend, not a day. 6 and 7 March 2027 are a Saturday and a Sunday, and the calendar gives both. The 2026 edition was settled in a single day, Saturday 14 March, but which of the two days is raced in 2027 is not published as of 12 October 2026. If you book, book the full weekend.

And it is a first draft, labelled that way by the international federation itself. It is not the final calendar, and a draft date can move.

Where the name T50 Cup comes from

The change is not about the Lanzarote race, it is about the whole circuit. On 13 December 2025, World Triathlon and the PTO announced the Triathlon World Tour, reordering professional racing: the World Triathlon Championship Series (WTCS) becomes the T50 World Championship Series, and the T100 circuit becomes the T100 World Championship Series. For the tier the World Cups used to occupy, that announcement described a feeder series branded “Challenger”, which would include the races “formerly known as World Triathlon Cups”.

Nine months later, the September 2026 calendar labels that tier T50 Cup, and Lanzarote sits there alongside Tarragona (10 and 11 April) and Melilla (1 and 2 May). So two names are in circulation for the same tier, and as of 12 October 2026 there is no published note from World Triathlon fixing “T50 Cup” as the race’s definitive name. The distances of the T50 format are not published either: the draft does not give them.

In practical terms: “T50 Cup Lanzarote” is the name under which the race appears in the 2027 calendar today, checked on 12 October 2026, while “World Triathlon Cup Lanzarote” remains the name you will find in almost everything written about it until now. Both refer to the same race in Costa Teguise.

What is still missing for this race

As of 12 October 2026 there is no 2027 event page in the triathlon.org event search, the race’s own website still shows the 14 March 2026 edition, and in the Canary Islands Triathlon Federation calendar the only Lanzarote race with a 2027 date is the IRONMAN. That means no start times, no 2027 courses, no price and no entry.

In 2026 an open sprint race for anyone, the I Triatlón Lanzarote, was held the same day on the same circuit, and it is how most people actually get to race here. Its 2027 call is not published as of 12 October 2026.

What you can do with this today is block out the weekend of 6 and 7 March and wait for the final calendar. The moment World Triathlon publishes it, it goes into the World Triathlon Cup Lanzarote page, which keeps the old name because that is what people search for.

Saturday 20 March 2027: the Volcano Triathlon, now with two distances

The Volcano Triathlon is raced on Saturday 20 March 2027 at Club La Santa, two weeks after the Costa Teguise weekend.

The date is not in the big banner on the event page, which as of 12 October 2026 announces “PRÓXIMA APERTURA DE INSCRIPCIONES 2027” without giving a day. It is in the public participant list that the club links from that same page, titled “Club La Santa Volcano Triathlon 2027, 20/03/2027, Tinajo”, read on 12 October 2026. That is an organiser source, even if it is not their front-page banner.

What the official site does spell out is the change of format, and it is the news that decides who this race suits: in 2027 there are two distances. Sprint, with a 750 m swim, 20 km bike and 5 km run; and standard, with 1.5 km, 40 km and 10 km. Team relays run on the standard distance only. There used to be a single distance, so the Volcano now opens up to people doing a first triathlon and not only to those after a fast race.

Minimum age is 18 by 31 December 2027. The 2027 athlete guide is not published as of 12 October 2026.

Saturday 24 April 2027: the Volcano Half brings middle distance back to the island

The Club La Santa Volcano Triathlon Half is raced on Saturday 24 April 2027: a 1.9 km swim, 90 km bike and 21.1 km run. The organiser presents it as the return of middle distance triathlon to Lanzarote.

The date comes by the same route as the Volcano’s: the official page says “PRÓXIMA APERTURA DE INSCRIPCIONES 2027” and the participant list is titled “Club La Santa Volcano Triathlon Half 2027, 24/04/2027, Tinajo”, read on 12 October 2026.

Two details shape the trip more than the date does. The bike is a single lap with a hard cut-off at 12:22 at kilometre 62.5, in Los Valles; and the run is three laps from Club La Santa, with another cut-off at 15:25 after 10.5 km. Those are clock-time cut-offs, not elapsed time, so you work them out from the start time once it is published. The price and the entry opening are not published as of 12 October 2026.

There are five weeks between this and the Volcano on 20 March, which is tight for racing both properly but fine for two separate trips.

Saturday 15 May 2027: the IRONMAN, the only one of the five with entries open

IRONMAN Lanzarote is raced on Saturday 15 May 2027 and it is the most settled of the five: the organiser’s website shows “May 15, 2027”, marks entry as open, and general registration opened on 18 June 2026, checked on 12 October 2026. The Canary Islands Triathlon Federation calendar confirms it as a second source, with its “15 May, IRONMAN LANZAROTE 2027”.

The distances are the usual ones: 3.8 km swim, 180.2 km bike and 42.2 km run, with the wind and the climbing that make this course what it is. The 2027 commercial title is Salomon IRONMAN Lanzarote, in case you search under that name.

It is the only one of the five where you can pay for a number today, and also the one that needs the most notice: eight months out, people already have flights, a house and a training plan. If you are torn between this, the Volcano and Ocean Lava, the comparison is in the IRONMAN, Volcano and Ocean Lava guide.

Saturday 9 October 2027: the El Río swim, between Lanzarote and La Graciosa

The El Río Open Water Swim is 2.6 km of open water across the channel separating Lanzarote from La Graciosa, from Bajo el Risco beach to Caleta del Sebo. For 2027 the Cabildo de Lanzarote publishes: “Sábado 9 octubre de 2027 12:30 h. [aproximadamente]”, read on 12 October 2026.

That bracket is worth reading carefully, because it changes the plan: the “approximately” attaches to the time, not the day. 9 October is a Saturday and the day is given. What will be adjusted is the start time, and it is adjusted for a physical reason the page itself explains: the swim is traditionally held in the second half of September and can move to the first half of October depending on the tides. El Río is swum when the current allows it, not when the calendar would prefer.

The 2027 rules and programme are not published as of 12 October 2026, and the Cabildo’s documents section still shows the 2026 ones. If this is your first long swim on the island, the open water swims guide covers what each one asks and the order that makes sense.

The other 47 races: what is known as of 12 October 2026

The TriLanzarote calendar holds 52 races. For the 47 that are not listed above, there is no published 2027 date as of 12 October 2026, and that is normal for October: most races on the island are announced between November and February, once this year’s edition has been run.

Three of them are the most awaited, and all three have their 2026 edition either just behind or still ahead:

  • The Lanzarote International Marathon runs its 2026 edition from 3 to 5 December, with the marathon starting in Costa Teguise.
  • Ocean Lava Lanzarote runs its 2026 edition on 24 October, in Puerto del Carmen.
  • The Club La Santa Running Challenge, four races in four days, runs its 2026 edition from 22 to 25 November.

For all three, the 2027 date goes up here the day it appears in an official source. What does not happen is turning a 2026 date into a 2027 forecast: a race held on 24 October can fall on the 23rd or the 30th the following year, and you cannot buy a flight with that.

Those 52 pages are checked against each organiser’s website in rotation, and every page states the exact day the figure was read. The full inventory, with the 2026 races still to come and the five from 2027, is in the calendar.

How to build a trip around five dates

March holds two of the five: the weekend of the 6th and 7th in Costa Teguise and the Volcano on the 20th at Club La Santa, with two weeks in between. It is the most usable window of the year if you are coming from abroad, because you can race one, stay and train on the island, and race the other, and because March is among the steadiest months for riding here.

What the calendar does not settle is the wind, which on Lanzarote is part of the course and not a detail of the day: how it works by area and by hour is in the wind guide. Where to sleep changes a lot depending on which start line is yours, and that is broken down in where to stay; getting to each start without a hire car is in transport and logistics; and if people are coming to watch you, the spots to see each race from are in the spectator guide.

If you are deciding a whole year rather than one race, the sports calendar month by month explains what each season on the island asks of you, and the rundown of the most important races ranks the big ones by what they demand. The five dates above are rechecked against their source every month, and the 47 still missing come in here as soon as their organiser publishes them.
