Event information
About the event
The Lanzarote World Triathlon Cup brought the island its first race on World Triathlon’s international circuit, in Costa Teguise on 14 March 2026. A World Cup is the tier immediately below the World Championship Series: real elite fields turn up, and in 2026 they did.
David Cantero Del Campo won in 54:45 and Nina Eim in 1:02:14. Behind the Spaniard came Tim Hellwig (54:48) and Jawad Abdelmoula (55:01); behind the German, Georgia Taylor-Brown (1:02:19) and Laura Lindemann (1:02:22). Six names inside twenty seconds on each podium, which is what separates an elite sprint from anything else raced on Lanzarote.
The same day and within the same event, the 1st Triatlón de Lanzarote was run over the sprint distance and open to all. According to FECANTRI it was won by César Vera and Ghislane Assou.
Route and distances
Sprint format, centred on Las Cucharas beach: 750 m swim, 20.7 km bike and 5 km run. It is a short, urban and highly visible course, built as much for television as for someone watching on foot from the promenade. Nothing like the long distance that usually defines triathlon on the island: this one is settled in a little under an hour.
The day mixed age-group waves before the elite races, so amateurs and professionals used the same circuit on the same day.
Registration and status
The 2026 edition has been run and no 2027 edition has been announced. That does not depend on the local organiser: the World Cup calendar is set by World Triathlon.
And 2027 is a year of change. The international federation has presented the Triathlon World Tour, with two tiers of T50 and T100 and a developmental Challenger Series below them. Lanzarote is not in the top-tier calendar that was published, and exactly what happens to World Cup races inside the new structure has not been detailed yet: it was left for the weekend of the World Championship Finals in Pontevedra. Checked on 6 September 2026.
Planning notes
If it comes back, the thing to check is the seafront: a race in this format closes the Las Cucharas front for hours and changes access to the beach. The elite start times are the ones that fill the barriers, and the ones worth looking up in advance if you are going to watch; if you race the open programme, your start will be considerably earlier.
Costa Teguise is a few minutes from Arrecife, so you do not need to stay there to see it.
