Season guide to sports events in Lanzarote
An editorial overview of Lanzarote's sports year to help you choose when to race, travel or follow events on the island.
Updated
Lanzarote’s sports calendar is not only about dates. Each season changes the way you race: wind, temperature, tourism, timings and race type mean that competing in March is very different from taking on a long-distance race in May or a trail event in September.
This guide explains how to read the year if you want to race, travel or follow sporting events on the island.
Early year: triathlon and fast formats
The first part of the year is often important for triathlon. Costa Teguise has gained visibility as an international venue, while popular or sprint-format races can open the season with intensity before summer arrives.
For visiting athletes, this period is usually comfortable in terms of temperature, although wind can shape the bike. If you are looking for a first race, prioritise short formats and simple logistics.
Spring: the endurance block
Spring brings several key events. Volcano Triathlon stands out as a classic Olympic-distance race, Sailfish Lanzarote Open Water puts swimming in focus and IRONMAN Lanzarote remains one of the major milestones of the year.
It is an attractive period, but not automatically easy. Sun exposure, wind and accumulated training mean you should arrive with the work done.
June: sport and cultural landscape
Lanzarote Wine Run shows another way to compete: less focused on pure performance and more connected to place. La Geria, Uga and the volcanic vineyard landscape turn the race into a full weekend experience.
If you travel with family or want an event with strong local identity, this kind of race may fit better than a purely competitive format.
Summer and later season
Summer and the later part of the year bring trail, cycling and other formats depending on confirmed calendars. Tinajo You Trail, for example, focuses on volcanic trails and routes for different levels.
At this time of year, watch heat, hydration and start times carefully. A medium-distance event in Lanzarote can feel harder than elsewhere because of exposure and terrain.
How to use TriLanzarote
Use event pages to save races to My Season, check official links and compare disciplines. If an event is pending confirmation, do not book travel or entry until the organiser publishes the final date and details.
The best season is not the one with the most races. It is the one that fits your preparation, your time and the way you want to experience the island.
