The San Ginés Open Water Swim held its thirty-first edition on the morning of Saturday 22 August 2026, as part of the patron saint festivities of Arrecife. It is organised by the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife and the course is the usual one: 1,200 metres from La Rocar beach to the club’s access ramp. More than 200 swimmers of all ages went into the water.

The 1,200 metres

Jacobo Garrido, of Club Natació Terrassa, won the queen distance in 14:04. David Alcolado (CN Moscardó) came second with 14:51, and Sammy Sutcliffe closed the podium with 15:04.

The women’s race went to Natalia Emilia Sasu in 16:13. Behind her came Lyli Gopar, with 16:39, and Nora Delgado, with 16:49. All three swim for Nadamas, so a single club took the entire women’s podium.

Of the more than 200 entries overall, close to 200 swam the long distance.

The distances by age group

San Ginés is not only about the queen distance. The programme spreads the youngest swimmers across short courses, with 100 metres for the under-8s, 400 for the under-10s and 800 for the under-12s, and continues with the under-14, junior 1 and junior 2 groups, the master categories from A to L and an adapted category. That is why a 1,200 metre swim moves more than 200 people in a single morning.

What this edition tells us

Thirty-one editions in a row make San Ginés the longest running open water swim on the island, and explain why it is swum with the town all around it: the finish sits on the Náutico promenade, in the middle of Arrecife, and in August the city is in festival mode.

Lanzarote now strings together two open water dates. The Emmax Crossing Playa Honda is announced for 29 August, pending confirmation of the date by the organiser. And the El Río Open Water Swim, the 2.6 kilometres between Lanzarote and La Graciosa that make up the long race of the calendar, is swum on 19 September with entries already completely closed.

The detailed official results, by category, are published by the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife.
