Lanzarote in October 2026: every race, weekend by weekend

October is the busiest month of the Lanzarote autumn: a two-stage road cycling race, a brand new trail with four distances finishing at the Mirador del Río, the island's October triathlon and a village race in Teguise.

Racing in Lanzarote in October

October is the fullest month of the Lanzarote autumn. The summer heat has eased, the island is back to a normal rhythm, and there is something on every weekend: road cycling, a brand new trail race, the October triathlon, two swims and a village race. Eight events in five weekends, and several of them close entries during the month.

Here is all of it, with the dates that actually matter.

Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 October: the cycling weekend

The Vuelta Ciclista a Lanzarote fills both days: 189 kilometres in two stages across all seven municipalities, with three timed climbs and everything else ridden in a group. As of 12 September there were 394 riders entered from 22 countries, and entries close on 29 September. There is more detail, including who is on the start list and what the 2025 clocks said, in our preview of the race.

The same Saturday at 17:00, at the other end of the scale, the Fisiosan 5K is run along the seafront of Playa Honda. It is a charity race and walk, 15 EUR, and it is the one to watch out for on the calendar: entries close on 26 September, a week before the race.

Friday 9 October: Trail Caldera del Cuchillo

The Trail Caldera del Cuchillo is a village race in El Cuchillo, Tinajo, and it is run in the late afternoon and evening of a Friday, which is not a calendar slip: the last two editions were on a Friday too. It is the fifth of the six races in the Tinajo Popular Race Cup.

Entries had not opened when this was written, and no price has been published. Its page carries the date from the town hall calendar and says so plainly.

Thursday 15 to Saturday 17 October: Unique Trail Lanzarote

Unique Trail Lanzarote by Joma is the new race of the year and the biggest thing in the month for trail runners. Four distances, 67, 46, 23 and 12 kilometres, all of them finishing at the same place, the Mirador del Río, plus a vertical race on the Risco de Famara and a children’s race. The courses cross five municipalities.

It is a first edition, but not a start from nothing: by 18 August it had already passed 400 entries, with about 40 % of the field from outside the province and 35 % women. Prices are at their top band, from 25 EUR for the 12 km to 69 EUR for the 67 km.

Saturday 17 October: Alejandro Candela swim

The Travesía a Nado Alejandro Candela is swum in Costa Teguise, the fourth of the five stages of the 12th Lanzarote Open Water Swimming Cup. It costs 20 EUR for seniors, the fee shared by every swim in the Cup.

It falls on the same Saturday that the Unique Trail finishes at the Mirador del Río, so if you are on the island that weekend you can watch a mountain finish in the north and a swim in Costa Teguise on the same day.

Saturday 24 October: Ocean Lava and San Rafael

Ocean Lava Lanzarote is the island’s October triathlon, in Puerto del Carmen: supersprint, Olympic distance, Olympic relay and a children’s aquathlon. There were 254 entries on 11 September and entries close on 18 October. Our preview has the detail, including the fact that as of now none of the last two Olympic podiums is on the start list.

The same day, in Villa de Teguise, the Carrera Popular San Rafael is run during the town’s patron saint festival: a 14 km trail, a 5 km race and the children’s Chinijos races. It costs 22 EUR and 15 EUR, and it is small on purpose, with 300 places, 150 per distance, and entries closing on 21 October at 12:00.

Saturday 31 October: the duathlon with two dates

The II Duatlón Supersprint Ciudad de Arrecife is the one to be careful with. The Canary Islands triathlon federation announced 31 October in a notice in May, and its own registration platform, checked on 7 September, opens the race for 12 December. The two dates are five weeks apart and nobody has corrected either of them in public.

Until that is cleared up the race is listed here as pending confirmation, with both dates visible. If you are thinking of travelling for it, the federation answers on competiciones@fecantri.org and 633 868 407.

What October is like on the island

The summer heat is over but the sea is still warm, which is why the swimming calendar is still running. The thing to plan around is the wind, not the temperature, especially on the exposed north where the Vuelta Ciclista and the Unique Trail both go. Our guide to wind and sport in Lanzarote explains how the trade wind behaves, and transport and logistics covers getting to start lines that are not near the resorts.

If you are planning further ahead, November brings the last swim of the year, Haría Titán and the Running Challenge: the whole month is in Lanzarote in November 2026.

The complete calendar, with every distance, price and start time, is on the Lanzarote calendar. Our listings are checked every morning against each organiser’s own website. The one thing you do have to go to their site for is entering: the payment is theirs.
