Ocean Lava Lanzarote is raced on Saturday 24 October 2026 in Puerto del Carmen, and the first thing to know is this: there is no middle distance in 2026. The official rules cover the supersprint and the Olympic, plus the Olympic relay and a Kids aquathlon. Article 12.4 of the rules says the Kids categories are «Por determinar» (to be determined), but the race’s own page already publishes them: prebenjamín 125-50-125 m, benjamín 250-100-250, alevín 500-200-500 and infantil 1.25 km, 500 m and 1.25 km, with the warning that «a partir de los 14 años, participarán en la modalidad de Supersprint» (from the age of 14 you race the supersprint). If you came looking for the half, 1,900 m of swimming, 90 km on the bike and 20 km running, you will have to look at another race.

It is run by K3 Servicios Deportivos Integrales and sanctioned by the Canarian Triathlon Federation. Almost everything happens on Avenida de Las Playas: transition, the finish and the running laps.

Course and distances

• Olympic: 40 km on the bike, three laps of the LZ-40 circuit, and 10 km running, two laps of Avenida de Las Playas.
• Supersprint: one lap of the same circuit, 13.9 km according to Sportmaniacs, and 2.5 km running out and back.
• Relay, the Olympic split between three people.

What time each race starts, and why there are two versions

Be in the call room at 07:45 and ready to start at 08:00, whichever race you are in. The organiser publishes two different schedules, and it pays to know that before setting the alarm for the wrong hour.

Read on 3 October 2026 at oceanlavalanzarote.com. Both sources come from the same organiser, they do not match, and both of them call themselves definitive: the code of the schedule page carries «PROGRAMA DEFINITIVO 2026» four times and «PROGRAMA PROVISIONAL 2026» twice, and article 12.1 of the rules is headed «HORARIO definitivo» (definitive timetable). It is not that one of them is out of date: there are two, and neither overrides the other. Until the organiser clears it up, the safe time is the earlier of the two for your race, and in both cases that is 08:00. The «24/10/2026 08:30» field Sportmaniacs shows next to the entry form does not count as a third version: it is that platform’s event start time, and its own page sends you back to the organiser, «Ver toda la información en la web oficial» (all the information is on the official website). Each start has a call room before it: 07:45 for the adults and 09:15 for the Kids, which goes off at 09:30. Bikes come out of transition from 11:15 and prizes are at 12:00.

The swim is in open water, starting and finishing on the Puerto del Carmen shoreline. And there is something to flag here: the 2026 rules contradict themselves. Article 1 and Annex II give 1.5 km for the Olympic swim, while article 12.3.1 describes a 400 m single-lap course, which is the supersprint text repeated. Until the organisers clear it up, the swim distance is not a settled figure: worth confirming at info@oceanlavalanzarote.com.

The bike circuit runs along Calle Noruega and the LZ-40, turning at the airport junction and the El Toro roundabout; drafting is allowed and aero bars are banned. There is water in transition, nothing on the bike, and one running aid station with two official figures: the rules say «En total habrá 4 avituallamientos para completar los 10 kilómetros» (4 aid stations over the 10 km) and the Olympic relay page says «En total habrá 8 avituallamientos» (8 aid stations). Cut-offs: 0:30, 1:00 and 0:30 on the supersprint; 1:15, 2:00 and 1:30 on the Olympic and the relay.

Entry and prices

Entries opened on 23 January and close on 18 October at 23:59, or earlier if the race fills.

• Supersprint: 30 EUR, one price for the whole entry period.
• Olympic: 95 EUR. The 85 EUR tier closed on 30 June and was the only rise of the year.
• Relay: 50 EUR per athlete or 150 EUR for the team. The 40 and 120 EUR tier closed on 30 June.

The relay of two does exist, and the rules contradict themselves. Article 1 says «Cada una de las disciplinas será cubierta por un atleta diferente» (each discipline is covered by a different athlete) and describes a team of three: «Una persona realizará los 1,5 km de natación, otra los 40 km de ciclismo y otra los 10km de carrera a pie». But Annex II says you may enter a «equipo de 2 ó 3 componentes» (team of 2 or 3 members) and that «en el caso de que el equipo estuviera formado por dos personas, una de ellas realizará dos modalidades y la segunda, la modalidad restante» (with two people, one of them takes two legs and the second the remaining one). The entry form confirms it: they are two separate formats, «(2 personas)» and «(3 personas)», and on 3 October 2026 there were 2 entries in the two-person one and 27 in the three-person one. In 2025 the relay was won by a team of two.

If you are racing as a pair there is a dated obligation that is not visible anywhere: you have to report how you split the legs «mediante correo electrónico a info@oceanlavalanzarote.com con una antelación máxima de 15 días antes de la prueba» (by email, no later than 15 days before the race), that is before 9 October. What is not published is the price for a team of two: the rules only give «50€/participante; 150€ total equipo», and those are the figures for three.

Entering now without taking out the refund insurance means no refund of any kind: the 40 % refund expired on 1 September 2026. The insurance costs 20 EUR on the Olympic and 10 EUR on the supersprint, and can only be bought at the moment you enter. A name change costs 10 EUR until 9 October 2026.

To get into transition you need a one-day licence, bought with your entry, or a valid triathlon ID. No medical certificate is required. The supersprint takes entries from age 14 with a guardian’s consent; the other formats are for adults. Wetsuit use depends on water temperature, measured by the referees an hour before the start.

2025 podiums

In the fifteenth edition, on Saturday 25 October 2025, the Olympic was won by Jorge Carlos Wilkes (CT Diablillos de Rivas) in 1:59:52 and Maike Döhling (Todo por un Sueño) in 2:35:13. The podiums were completed by Rasmus Pilegaard (2:03:16), Arturo Javier Barro (2:08:09), Marine Blache (2:36:05) and Sheila Jordan (2:39:26).

Both supersprint winners compete in the cadet category, aged 14 and 15, which is why we do not publish their names. The relay went to Trilaguna Reactive in 2:11:54.

Planning your race

Bib collection is on Friday 23, from 10:00 to 13:00 and 16:00 to 20:00; the briefing is at 19:00 in Plaza de las Naciones and prizes are handed out at 12:00.

The 2026 road closure map is published, read on 3 October 2026, and the first thing on it is not a closure but an exit: «La salida de la C/ Juan Carlos I hacia la LZ-40 dirección Aeropuerto-Arrecife y dirección El Toro (Puerto Calero o Mácher) a la altura de Hospiten quedarán cerradas a las 05:30 horas» (the exits from Calle Juan Carlos I onto the LZ-40 towards the airport and towards El Toro, level with Hospiten, close at 05:30), and «la salida desde la C/ Reina Sofía (rotonda de El Toro) hacia a la LZ-40 en dirección Aeropuerto-Arrecife, quedará cerrada a las 06:30 horas» (the exit from Calle Reina Sofía, at the El Toro roundabout, closes at 06:30). If you are sleeping outside Puerto del Carmen you have to be in before those times, not at them.

The closures start on the Friday: «De 08:00 horas del viernes 23 de octubre hasta las 16:00 horas del sábado 24 de octubre, cierre del tramo de AVENIDA LAS PLAYAS entre la C/ Rusia y la C/ Yugoslavia» (Avenida Las Playas between Calle Rusia and Calle Yugoslavia, from 08:00 on Friday 23 October to 16:00 on Saturday 24 October). The Saturday one is «De 07:00 a 14:00 horas del sábado 24 de octubre, ampliación del cierre de la AVENIDA LAS PLAYAS entre la C/ Noruega y la C/ Lapa» (the closure of Avenida Las Playas extended between Calle Noruega and Calle Lapa, 07:00 to 14:00), plus Calle Noruega and Rambla Islas Canarias from 07:00 to 11:30 and the LZ-40 between El Toro and the Matagorda junction in the same window.

The map does not agree with itself on Avenida de Las Playas: its text gives 14:00 and its table gives «07:00 a 12:00 horas» for the Lapa-Rusia stretch and «07:00 a 16:00 horas» for the Yugoslavia-Rusia stretch. The latest hour it publishes is 16:00, not 12:00. If you have to move your car off that avenue, count on 16:00.
