Event information
About the event
The Carrera Popular San Rafael is run in Teguise during the town’s October patron saint festival and is organised by Club Deportivo Chimia Trail. The current series is short: the 2nd edition was held on 26 October 2024 and the 3rd on 25 October 2025, both in the old town. A 4th edition is coming, because the event’s official Instagram account already presents itself that way, but as of 20 August 2026 there is no poster and no date.
It is a village race with two routes, a long one across open country and a short one, set up so that trail regulars and weekend runners can both take part.
One warning if you dig up older material: a different race with the same name was run in Teguise in 2014, in the Barrio de los Molinos, organised by the town council and the fiestas association, over 5 and 10 km. That was an earlier and separate series. The current numbering restarted in 2024, so none of those figures apply here.
What is known about the date
Only the month. The Hola Islas Canarias portal lists the race under October 2026 without naming a day, and no official source has published the date. The two previous editions fell on the fiesta Saturday, but that is a pattern, not a date, and it is not treated as confirmed here until the club says so.
The channel where the call usually appears first is the event’s Instagram account, @carrerapopularsanrafael.
Course and distances
The exact start and finish are unconfirmed. The last two editions had two distances: a long trail route around the Villa de Teguise and a short 5 km race. Sources do not agree on the long one, 14 km on buscametas and 14.2 km on Hola Islas Canarias, so it stays open until the 2026 rules are published. No elevation figure has been released either.
Teguise sits inland, and the tracks around it are dirt and loose stone, which is why the longer distance is framed as a trail race.
Entry
No price and no entry platform have been published for 2026. The last two editions were timed by my.raceresult.com, and that is where the 3rd edition results were posted, under event number 359696, although the classifications do not load without a browser.
Planning your race
Teguise is the island’s former capital and the race moves through its surroundings, so the fiesta sets the atmosphere. Leave time to arrive: if the route goes through the old town again, streets will be closed and you will park further out than you expect. October evenings cool down earlier than in summer, and if the start is late in the day again, you will want a layer for after the finish.
