Completed Trail running Teguise

Famara Total

Trail race in Caleta de Famara with 7.5, 15, 25 and 45 km options plus a night vertical race around the Famara cliffs.

Event information

About the event

Famara Total is the trail race of Caleta de Famara, in the north of Teguise, and in 2026 it held its eleventh edition from Thursday 13 to Saturday 15 August. It is not one race but three days with six formats, and that is why it fills up so far in advance.

The setting matters more than the elevation profile: you run between the village, the beach and the Risco de Famara, the cliff that closes the island to the north, with the whole of La Graciosa in view.

Course and distances

Start and finish in Caleta de Famara, except for the vertical, which climbs from the village to Las Nieves.

  • 45 km, the queen distance
  • 25 km
  • 15 km
  • 7.5 km
  • Vertical Nocturna, around 6.5 km with 600 m of climbing, on Thursday at 21:00
  • Hiking, non-competitive

The long formats started at 07:00 on Saturday. The terrain mixes volcanic trail, track and sections high on the Risco that are badly exposed to the wind.

How the 2026 edition went

Alejandro Mayor Guzmán and Yasmina Castro Chacón won the 45 km for the third year running, having also won in 2024 and 2025.

The other story was the double by Yoel de Paz Baeza and Anya Lamprecht Alfonso, who won Thursday’s Vertical Nocturna in 34:36 and 49:13 and then won the 25 km two days later. Lamprecht also placed tenth overall in the vertical.

In the other distances, Ione Guerra Almeida and Ildiko Csilla Biro won the 15 km, and Tinguaro Quintero del Rosario and María Camacho Pérez the 7.5 km.

Full podiums, including the vertical’s pairs classification, are in the report on the edition.

Entry: the thing to know for 2027

Before the 2026 race had even started, the organisers had already sold out the Vertical Nocturna, the hike, the 7.5 km and the 15 km. Four of the six formats closed before a single runner had set off.

If you are thinking of racing it in 2027, the practical conclusion is simple: the short distances and the vertical fill up early here, and leaving it to the final weeks does not work. Entry openings are announced on the official website and on the race’s Instagram.

Planning your race

Caleta de Famara is a small village with a single road in. In August, with three days of racing on top, parking is the real problem: arrive with plenty of time to spare, or leave the car at the entrance and walk.

Wind is the other factor. Famara is one of the windiest parts of Lanzarote, and up on the Risco it blows considerably harder than down on the beach. Pack a windproof even in August, and glasses if there is sand in the air.

For anyone coming to watch, the village works very well: start and finish are in the same place, there are bars along the promenade, and you see everyone come in without moving. Thursday night’s vertical, with head torches climbing the Risco, is one of the best sights on the island’s sporting calendar.
