The Lanzarote Wine Run brought together more than 1,900 runners of more than thirty nationalities on 13 and 14 June in the protected landscape of La Geria, centred on Uga, in the municipality of Yaiza.

It is a race run between vine hollows. The ground is loose picón and the stone walls mark out the route, so it is neither a mountain trail nor a road race: it is its own thing, and that is why it moves almost two thousand people in June.

The 23 kilometres

Yerove Rodríguez won the long distance in one hour and twenty-four minutes, repeating his win from the previous year.

In the women’s race, Aroa Merino also repeated, with 1:43.

Rayco Hernández, second here, is the same runner who won the 14 km of the Tinajo You Trail in 2025. The names at the top of the island calendar repeat from one race to the next.

The 12 kilometres

The short distance was settled in under an hour, with the first three inside three minutes.

The organisers publish times rounded to the minute, so the real gaps between first and third in the 12 km were smaller than they look in the table.

Besides running

The programme splits into three formats: the 23 and 12 kilometre races, and a 12 kilometre trek for anyone who would rather walk it. That third option explains a good part of the almost two thousand bibs: you do not have to compete in order to sign up.

The race leans on the wine-growing landscape of La Geria, which is the island’s signature and is recognised as an agricultural system of global importance. Running between the hollows and finishing with a glass of wine is literally the argument of the event, and it works: it is one of the few races on Lanzarote that brings in more than thirty countries in June.

Where it sits in the calendar

The Wine Run opens the island’s sporting summer in June. Next comes the Famara Total in August, and the Tinajo You Trail closes it in early September. The three are the big trail and road running dates outside the triathlon season.
