Event information
About the event
The Milla Popular de La Santa is the shortest race on the Tinajo calendar: 1.6 kilometres through the streets of the coastal village of La Santa, starting at 19:00 during the Fiestas del Carmen. It is run by the sports department of Tinajo town council, which puts it at its seventh edition, and it is the third scoring race of the 2026 Tinajo Popular Races Cup, the ninth edition of that series.
A mile is not run like a 10K. You go out almost flat and hang on, and the times show it: the 2026 winner stopped the clock at 5:02 and the first woman at 6:34, figures that point to a fast, straightforward course.
Course and distances
The senior race is one mile, 1.6 km, around the coastal settlement of La Santa. The exact start and finish points are not published, only that the route runs through the village streets.
There is a children’s race on the same day, over a shorter distance. The time is the detail that does not add up: Lanzarote Deportes puts it at 18:30 and Tinajo town council at 19:30. If you are bringing children, check first on +34 928 84 00 21.
Entry
Entries are handled exclusively through www.carreraspopularestinajo.com. On the date of this review the domain was not responding, so the fallback is the council sports page or the town hall by phone. No entry fee has been published by any official source.
About the 2026 date
The race was held, but the exact day cannot be treated as settled. Three sources give three different July 2026 dates: the Cup calendar on tinajo.es and Lanzarote Deportes point to Friday the 17th, the council’s own news item on the race says Saturday the 18th, and the results report published on 20 July places it on the 19th. Until the organiser clears it up, no exact date is published here.
2026 results
- Men: Hugo Pérez 5:02, Aray Gutiérrez 5:36, Marc Baker 5:46
- Women: Sara Rivas 6:34, Lucía Cabello 6:48, Mónica García 6:49
Planning your race
La Santa is a small village on the north west coast of Tinajo, the same spot as the Club La Santa sports resort. You get there by car and there is not much parking near the route, so arriving early saves you a walk.
A 19:00 start in July keeps you out of the hottest hours, but it puts the race in the part of the day when wind tends to pick up along that coast. For 1.6 km you need no personal feed, though it pays to turn up well hydrated and to warm up properly: over a mile there is no time to ease into it.
