Event information
About the event
The Triatlón RCNA Ciudad de Arrecife reached its 32nd edition on Saturday 25 July 2026. It is the triathlon with the longest history in Lanzarote, run by Arrecife town council and the Canary Islands Triathlon Federation, with the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife and the island council as partners. José Israel Caraballo Nieves is the race director.
The 2026 edition changed two things at once. The date first: it moved out of the San Ginés festival calendar, where it was traditionally raced, and forward to late July. The second was the sprint course, used for the first time that day. Among the starters was David Expósito Muñoz, the reigning European middle distance champion.
Course and distances
The swim takes place at the mouth of the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, on calle Valencia, which means inside the bay and in sheltered water. The bike leg runs through the city and crosses the Puente de las Bolas, the small bridge that leads to the castle of San Gabriel and is the postcard image of Arrecife. The finish is on avenida de El Reducto, next to the beach of the same name.
The programme brought together four formats: senior sprint, super sprint for school age categories (infantil, cadete and juvenil), a youth aquathlon and a relay team classification inside the sprint race. The exact split distances are not published on any open source, so we do not give them: the rules document with the course maps was downloaded from the FECANTRI entry page.
Entry and standings
Entries opened on 17 June 2026 at 12:00 and closed on 22 July at 23:59, with limited places, on the FECANTRI platform. We do not publish the entry fee because it does not appear on any open source.
The race scored towards the first edition of the Lanzarote Island Triathlon Championship and counted as the Canary Islands Championship in school age categories, as well as towards the Canary Islands Talent Series.
Who won in 2026
Senior sprint:
- Men: Saúl Escarabajal (Club de Triatlón Diablillos de Rivas) 1:04:40, Andrés Eduardo Díaz (Chamo Díaz), Cristian Martín (Club Natación Las Palmas)
- Women: Mia Leadbeater (Chamo Díaz) 1:15:14, Carmen Falcón (Club Natación Las Palmas) 1:15:28, Sabrina Montes 1:24:18
Trilaguna won the team classification with William Edwin, Jonay Medina and Alejandro González in 1:28:19. The times of second and third in the men’s race are not published exactly in open sources, only as approximate gaps, so we leave them out.
Planning your race
Race numbers were collected on Friday 24 from 16:00 at the Real Club Náutico, so there is no queue on race morning. On the start time there are two versions: the entry page listed 9:30 and the press put the start of competition at 10:00. The schedule by race is settled: men’s sprint at 11:00, women’s sprint at 11:02, junior super sprint men at 14:00 and women at 14:02, with the prize giving around 16:00.
Racing in Arrecife in late July means heat and midday sun with no shade on the promenade, especially in the afternoon races. To watch, El Reducto is the best spot: you park in the city, the finish is on the avenue, and from the promenade you can see the swim, the bike passing and the finish almost without moving.
