The Triatlón RCNA Ciudad de Arrecife raced its thirty-second edition on Saturday 25 July, with the swim start at the Real Club Náutico and the bike and run legs through the streets and along the coast of Arrecife. It is the oldest triathlon on the island, and in 2026 it used a new course for the first time.

It is organised by Arrecife town council, the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife and the Canary Islands Triathlon Federation, with the Cabildo de Lanzarote.

The senior sprint

Saúl Escarabajal, of Club de Triatlón Diablillos de Rivas, won in 1:04:40.

The organisers published the winner’s time and the gaps, not the exact times of the other two.

In the women’s race, on the other hand, all three are known, and the podium was decided on the run: fourteen seconds between first and second after an hour and a quarter of racing.

What the club list says

Look at the eighteen places and you can see where grassroots triathlon in the Canary Islands comes from: Club Natación Las Palmas puts four names there, Flor de Triatló Platja Llarga three, and Chamo Díaz, Sports Club Tripate and Club Natación Reales two each. These are clubs that travel to Lanzarote with the whole team for a single Saturday race.

The programme also included a youth aquathlon, which is the way in for those who do not race on a bike yet.

The island’s other triathlons

The island calendar has three more triathlon dates outside the IRONMAN circuit: the Costa Teguise Triathlon in March, the Magma Yaiza and the Arrecife Duathlon on 31 October, which closes the season.
