Hugo Pérez Robayna won the 2026 Milla Popular de La Santa in 5:02, and Sara Rivas Guerra was the first woman home in 6:34. It was run through the streets of the village, in Tinajo, as part of the Virgen del Carmen festivities, starting at 19:00 and counting as the third round of the municipal popular races cup.

A mile is not run like a 10K: you go out almost flat and hold on. The times show it. Pérez Robayna covered the 1.6 kilometres at 3:08 per kilometre, and the six podium places fell within 47 seconds of each other, from the first man to the third woman.

2Lucía Cabello Umpiérrez6:48
3Mónica García Espejo6:49

The tightest fight was for third place in the women’s race: García Espejo finished one second behind Cabello Umpiérrez. Among the men it was the opposite, 34 seconds between first and second, which over 1.6 kilometres is an age.

The children ran first

The children’s race was held before the adults’, over a shortened version of the same route. The council published no classifications for it, so there are no names here. The sports councillor, Vianney Rodríguez, spoke of the “spectacular atmosphere in the streets of La Santa”, and the mayor, Jesús Machín, said sport takes up more of the municipality’s festivities every year.

What it counts towards

The Mile is part of the Tinajo popular races circuit, timed by Cronoline Canarias, which has 268 classified runners across all its rounds, 178 men and 90 women. Mónica García Espejo, third here, led the women’s circuit standings on 264 points, with Sara Rivas Guerra fifth on 220. The men’s leader was José Luis Peraza Pérez on 251, who in September came fourth in the 33.5 km at the Tinajo You Trail.

After the Mile the circuit moved on to the 14 km at the Tinajo You Trail, and still to come are the 10 km Trail Caldera de El Cuchillo in October and the 4 km Club La Santa Night Run in November.

Two things we cannot settle

The date. The cup calendar on the council website and the entries announcement both put the race on 17 July; the festival programme says “Friday 17 July”, and 17 July 2026 was indeed a Friday; but a news item on that same council website says the 18th. The organiser’s own results piece, published on 20 July, puts it on the 19th. We publish Friday the 17th because it is the only date whose weekday checks out, and the event listing keeps the day as unconfirmed.

The edition number. One source calls it the 8th and another the 7th. With no way to decide, no edition number appears here.

Nor is there any accessible full classification: not on Sportmaniacs, and not on the circuit’s timing page, which only publishes the cup’s cumulative standings. The six podium times come from three local outlets, all with the same figures.
