Event information
About the championship
The Lanzarote Youth Triathlon and Aquathlon Championship is the island’s development series, the way children from Lanzarote clubs get into triathlon. It is run by the Cabildo de Lanzarote sports department and the Canary Islands Triathlon Federation (FECANTRI), and the whole 2026 season was held at Lago de La Santa, inside the Club La Santa resort in Tinajo.
The final round, on Saturday 16 May 2026, brought together 68 children and closed the season.
The 2026 rounds
- 7 March: round one, Lago de La Santa. Held.
- 21 March: round two. Cancelled.
- 16 May: final round and closing ceremony, Club La Santa. Held.
The venue does not move from round to round, which helps when you are driving a child there several Saturdays in a row. Lago de La Santa is an enclosed stretch of water inside the resort, with no waves and no current, which is exactly what a six year old needs in order to get in without fear.
Format by category
The championship is a mixed format, and this is the part to understand before entering anyone:
- Development categories, prebenjamín, benjamín and alevín: aquathlon, that is run and swim, no bike.
- Older licensed categories: full triathlon, with swim, bike and run.
Neither organisation publishes the exact distances for each category, so we are not quoting them. They follow the Canary Islands Triathlon Federation rules.
Entry
Entries go through the FECANTRI platform and under its regulations. No entry fee, closing date or field limit has been published.
The requirements are not the same for the development categories as for the licensed ones, and that is the point to settle with your club or with the federation before the first round: competiciones@fecantri.org or +34 633 868 407. The Cabildo answers on +34 928 81 01 00.
For parents
Rounds start at 10:00. Club La Santa is in Tinajo on the north coast, so from Arrecife or from the south of the island you need to allow for the drive both ways and leave with time to spare.
The lake is ringed by open ground, with no stands: you can see the whole race from a few steps away and follow your child from the start to the finish without losing sight of them. There is no natural shade, so bring a cap and water.
One more thing you only learn by going: the north wind blows at La Santa even on sunny days, and the children come out of the water cold however good the weather looks. Big towel, dry tracksuit, spare shoes and something to eat afterwards.
