Carrera de Mascaritas
Carnival fun run through the streets of Tinajo, with 10 km, 5 km and children's races. First scoring race of the 9th Copa de Carreras Populares de Tinajo.
Event information
About the race
The Carrera de Mascaritas is run in fancy dress. It is the sporting fixture of the Tinajo carnival, which in 2026 ran from 6 to 8 March with a Viking theme, and it brought around 350 runners to the start on Saturday 7 March.
It is put on by the sports department of Tinajo Town Council together with Cronoline Canarias. No licence and no club membership are needed: people who race all year line up next to people who walk the 5 km in a wig, and both belong on the same start line.
It is also the first of the six scoring races in the 9th Copa de Carreras Populares de Tinajo 2026.
Course and distances
The race runs through the streets of Tinajo town centre, on tarmac, starting and finishing in the village. The council does not publish the exact spot, so allow time and ask at the bib collection area.
- 10 km, measured 10.4 km
- 5 km, measured 5.2 km
- Children’s races by age group
The advertised distances are 5 and 10 km, but the results lists give 5.2 and 10.4 km.
Timings: the adult race starts at 10:00 and the children’s races from 11:30.
Entry
Entries for every race in the Cup go through carreraspopularestinajo.com. No official source publishes the 2026 entry fee, so you will not find a price here. The sports department answers on 928 84 00 21 and at tinajocomunicacion@gmail.com.
How it scores for the Tinajo Cup
The Copa de Carreras Populares de Tinajo 2026 has six races: Carrera de Mascaritas (7 March), Trail La Vegueta (27 June), Milla Popular de La Santa (17 July), Tinajo You Trail (4 and 5 September), Trail Caldera El Cuchillo (9 October) and the Club La Santa Night Run (21 November). The dates of the races still to come are taken from the municipal calendar and have not been reconfirmed one by one.
To go for the final prize you have to finish at least three. Anyone running more than three scores with their four best results. Points are given on the overall standings and by category, and there are trophies and cash prizes for the overall, for each category and for the best runners resident in the municipality.
2026 results
10.4 km, men: Tinguaro Quintero (Tenerife CajaCanarias) 42:15, Víctor Manuel González (Todo por un sueño) and Samu Fernández (EAMJ Playas de Jandía). Women: Naomi Hodel 49:25, Mónika Heiden and María Solís.
5.2 km, men: Tanausú Cabrera (CM El Jable) 19:38, Dani García (Cavelanz) and Aitami Hernández (MC2 Action). Women: Cristina Molina (Todo por un sueño) 25:07, Johanna Vasara and Mónica García.
Planning your race
If you find Carrera Mascaritas listed on 28 February somewhere, that entry is out of date: the island calendar published by the Cabildo still shows that day, while Tinajo Town Council set 7 March, which is when it was run.
The costume is part of the race, but it pays to think about how it runs: light layers, nothing that chafes and ordinary road shoes. At 10:00 on a March Saturday in Tinajo it tends to be cool at the start and warm by the finish. And if you are coming with children, the morning works well: adults start at 10:00 and the children’s races begin an hour and a half later in the same place.
