Triatlón IES Yaiza 2026: results
More than 1,250 students and teachers from 23 schools raced from Puerto Calero to IES Yaiza. Rain and the sea left the swim in doubt until an hour before the start.

Enea Cucchetti and Elizabeth Rosa won the 27th Triatlón IES Yaiza on Friday 10 April 2026. Cucchetti, from IES Yaiza itself, covered the four legs in 50:14. Rosa, from Colegio Santa María de los Volcanes, was the first woman home in 59:04. More than 1,250 students and teachers from 23 schools across Lanzarote, Tenerife and Fuerteventura took part, between Puerto Calero and the school in Yaiza.
The race was in doubt until the last minute. Rain and the state of the sea forced the organisers to wait until an hour before the start to decide whether the swim would go ahead. It did, and the triathlon was raced in full: over 450 metres of open-water swimming in Puerto Calero, a 1,200 m transition run, 9 km on the bike and 3,775 m on foot to the finish at the school.

The over-20 category is for teachers, and there Daniel Navarro Hernández beat Jonathan A. Duarte by 55 seconds. Both finished a little over a minute ahead of the women’s overall winner.
In the lower secondary category, the names the organisers released were Adrián Sánchez, Echedey Cabrera, Abián Delgado and Iago Carrillo, with no times or order published. There are no podiums for the other school categories: the organisers only gave the winners, and no public classification exists on any timing platform. We are not going to invent the second and third places.
The edition had a element that was not on the clock. A posthumous tribute was paid to Pauli Cabrera Ruiz, one of the people behind the school’s triathlon, and the sports hall now officially carries her name. The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, and the sports councillor, Ángel Lago, attended.
The triathlon started in 1995 and is the biggest school sports event in the Canary Islands: every secondary school in Lanzarote takes part, state, private and semi-private, and schools travel over from Tenerife and Fuerteventura. The Canary Islands government gave IES Yaiza the Viera y Clavijo distinction for that work.
A note for anyone looking at the history: the distances change from year to year. In 2025 it was an 800 m swim, 8.5 km on the bike and 3.5 km on foot, so the previous year’s course is no guide.
And one reservation worth writing down: three independent headlines and the official listing say 27th edition, but the body text of two of those same pieces says 26th. We use 27th, which is what more sources support.
The next day, Saturday 11 April, Playa Blanca hosted the Magma Yaiza Lanzarote Triathlon, the municipality’s race for adults.
