Vertical Montaña Blanca 2026: results of the 14th edition

The Vertical Montaña Blanca ran its fourteenth edition on Saturday 16 May with 350 participants, in the rural interior of San Bartolomé. It is organised by the San Bartolomé town council and Senderismo Lanzarote.

The three distances are named after grain measures, which is where the farming vocabulary of Lanzarote comes from: Fanega, Almud and Cuartillo, from largest to smallest. The programme is completed by a hiking route and a children’s race.

Fanega, 20.4 kilometres

The long distance was won by Sergio Machín Bernal, of C.D. Latitud 29º, in 1:38:50, and by Belinda Guillén Callero, of Club Azarug Tinajo, in 2:28:39.

The organisers published the winners of each distance, not the full podiums.

What the times say

Machín ran the Fanega at 4:51 per kilometre over 20.4 kilometres of hill country, and de León Díaz took the Cuartillo at 4:14, which is road pace on ground that is nothing like a road. The Almud, in between, was won at 5:56.

Between the first man and the first woman in the Fanega there are 49:49. With 350 bibs spread across five formats, the women’s front of the long distance is a small group.

Who organises and who wins

Belinda Guillén runs for Club Azarug Tinajo, the same club that organises the Trail Caldera del Cuchillo on 9 October. On an island of this scale, the clubs are at once the ones who organise and the ones who win.

The island’s trail calendar continues with the Tinajo You Trail in early September and with the Cuchillo itself in October.
